More Than 99 Bottles Of Beer On The Wall!

The Bier Stein Bottleshop & Pub, considered a connoisseur beer store, has way more than just 99 bottles of beer in their coolers, it's more like over 1000 different bottles of beer, and always have ten unique beers on tap. They also serve some of the best food in town. They offer everything from hot panini sandwiches, homemade soups (can you say beer cheese?!), fresh salads and appetizers. Not a Eugene local? Or possibly, just never been here? This is seriously the place to go to get your fix. No matter what your brewski or food of choice.
They also have events! What kind? Oh, you know, beer tasting...These usually consist of new releases from varying breweries or distributors, and are free events.

Here is the line up for the rest of this month:

Widmer has some exciting new beers out! We will be offering you the opportunity to sample them in a flight. The 4 beers we will be offering in the flight are: Marionberry Hibiscus Gose, Citra Blonde, Capt. Shaddocks IPA, and Kill Devil Brown. Shannon will be here raffling off some cool Widmer gear! Flights start pouring @ 7pm!

Favorites from The Bier Stein:
I will not be shy about the fact that I have tried every sandwich on the menu, and about 25% of the bottles of beer they keep stocked. To date, my favorite menu item flip flops between the Mona Lisa panini and the Gouddhist, both are delectable when dipped into the "Bier" cheese soup.  Daily lunch specials, rotating soups and beers on tap add to the appeal of this downtown joint.

Maybe not a sandwich person? Never fear! The salads are always fresh, and delish. Or, try the hummus plate. I would go out on a limb to say this is the best prepared plate in town.

There rotating taps, and the huge selection of beers from the case keeps me always wanting to come back. So many choices! What's a girl or guy to do?

Why it is not like any other place in Eugene:
Well, it's the only place! 'Nuff said!

Chef's stepping out for the night...

I had the recent pleasure of attending Chef's Night Out this year on April 10th. For those of you who don't know, this is an annual event that is held at the Hult Center, and all proceeds from ticket prices go to FOOD for Lane County. Awesome little factoid? Your $65 ticket provides 192 meals for people in Lane county. Now, that's a great benefit!

The nitty gritty? Over 50 local restaurants, bakeries, breweries and wineries all show up to donate and show off their best. You get to eat and drink your way through the yummiest Eugene has to offer. It's a win/win for everyone! Look for the list of participants at the bottom of this post.

Favorites from the Chef's Night:
Oh gosh, where to begin?! Loved the Tuna Tartare from Ax Billy, Excelsior's Ravioli, Koho Bistro's everything, Zenon Cafe, King Estate's vino and Mac and Cheese balls, Divine Cupcakes Banana Foster mini cupcake...The list could go on and on...

Why it is not like any other event in Eugene:
The concept for Chefs' Night Out was discovered and developed for FOOD for Lane County by Eugene restaurant owner and chef Mike West. Mike spearheaded the first event in 1991. He contacted local vendors and farmers to procure donated goods. As co-owner of Café Zenon, he held the first event at his restaurant one rainy Sunday afternoon. Fifty people enjoyed a six-course meal with proceeds going to hunger organizations.
The following year Mike expanded his efforts by including several downtown restaurants to create a "Dine Around Town" night. In the event's third year, Mike approached the Hult Center and successfully moved the event this new and unique venue. Twenty restaurants participated and 250 people attended. Now in its 21st year, Chefs' Night Out has grown to include over 50 restaurants and wine purveyors, with over 900 people attending. Touche!

Join the herd and find the Wandering Goat.

I recently found myself on 3rd and Madison, in the heart of the Whitaker district, staring into the eyes of a coffee drinking goat. I was excited, not only because I'm a goat myself (hello Capricorn!) but because after hearing so many great things about this place, I was finally going to try it myself! For those of you who know me well, nothing makes me happier than the perfect cup of coffee, served with a delicious baked good. And yes, they are also a bakery. All of their baked goods being vegan, organic, and baked fresh daily on site. Are you kidding me?! Why have I not gone here sooner...
I was hit with a surge of soft music, an urban hippie artsy interior and lots of seating. Walking up to the counter I could barely decide which chaulk written choice I'd make. I settled on a pot of some french press and a peanut butter bar. Yum!               I quickly learned that Wandering Goat is a small locally owned coffee company that is committed to seeking out the best coffees from all over the world, which are sustainably produced and then roasting them here locally (right across the street from the coffee shop!) in small batches. They also are an art, music and performance venue in the evenings, where they then break out the locally brewed beer on tap, or pour you a delicious glass of a local wine.. Make sure you check out their events page

Favorites from Wandering Goat:
Drip coffee, French Press, Iced Chai, Beer Cheese Biscuits, Sticky Buns, Peanut Butter Bar...Really anything you get you cannot go wrong!

Why it is not like any other coffee shop in Eugene:
Their practice of only utilizing sustainable products really sets them apart from the crowd. Quality is at the top of their list, and a unique stand out coffee is standard practice. There is no way you will be disappointed. Wandering Goat has taken the practice of a quick cup of joe, and elevated it to a level that will impress even the snobbiest of coffee connoisseurs.

So go wander through the Whitaker district and join the herd at Wandering Goat. I'll probably even see you there!
